Chapter 2, Task 3. Translating into Stitch - white on black.

Chapter 2, Task 3, The original ink washed background with white charcoal pencil is the top image and my white on black stitched sample page is below.
I began using cream cotton (I had ordered white)  and ran out so completed the sampled with new white cotton - the first image was a long way off the original, the second wasn't great - the only way I seem to get a more accurate result is to draw the image on the fabric first and then stitch - not sure of this is okay to do?? The contrast is really good and definitely enhances the images in the reverse. I had problems with the stitching in the final image as the bobbin grabbed the cotton and I had to re thread, then it went straight back to normal. Pleased with them overall and pleased with the way my machine is performing now it has decent cotton!

Level 1, Chapter 2, Task 2

Hi Jo
Where did that week go!
Thanks for your feedback and comments re my last task.
I have downloaded Picasa 3 and these photos have been lightened and are the right way up!! So sorry - I just could not find a way of rotating the others I took.
**
Actually after all that - they were still "iffy", I have used a scanner and they look amazing now.
I have loved doing these angle and pattern designs and think I have a couple of nice ones. They have a "smiley"!
This afternoon I am going to start the next task and am so looking forward to the "stitching" part.
That's it for now - hope you are having a lovely Sunday.

Level 1 Chapter 2, Task 1, Linear Links

Hi Jo
Here are my designs for this task. I loved this task and it was brilliant to use the template for each one - it is much easier than looking at a blank A4 page! Also it enabled me to work quicker and much more freely. Hope I am working along the right lines!!

Level 1, Chapter 1, Task 4 - Health and Safety Notes

Hi Jo
Here is Task 4 Health and Safety notes as requested.

Level 1 Chapter 1 Task 2, Fabric Prep - Rotary Cutting Notes

Hi Jo
Here are my Rotary Cutting Notes for task 2.
The fabric preparation was "interesting". I had to re cut about half of my pages - the calico was cut too small and so was the black material - the felt was spot on both black and white.
Anyway, I got there in the end...could not believe how long it took me! It got much easier second time around.

Machine Embroidery Level1 task 3

This is my sample grid using the tension increases from 0 -9iA really good exercise to see how all the different threads react and even though the stitch length is 3.2 mm it does approve the problems that can occur when the tension is not right for the thread.
This is the reverse side of the sample tension grid. The metallic ones have puckered the fabric.

My notes on task 3

Notes on task 3 cont

Sorry Joe this ended up upside down! Basically, it was to show you the choice of stitch lengths available.

I will get better at this but do not know how to rotate the pictures... cannot wait to start the next task. Do let me know if this is all somewhere along the right lines.

Machine Embroidery module1

Coffee table hand carved wooden top. See charcoal rubbing.

My workspace/ fabrics boxed

my sewing machine

My tension stitched samples. The yellow from left to right is after cleaning my machine and fitting a new needle showing the darker cotton , so I adjusted the top tension to improve. Then the red fabric left to right was various size stitches to show I had corrected it. Hope this makes sense.

Correction - dispose of the old needles, I have a small plastic diabetic needles container that I will store my old, used needles in and then I will take it up to my Doctors surgery for them to dispose of.
